Weatherford is a part of Parker County which traces its roots all the way back to 1855! The county was named after the State Representative Isaac Parker. Historically, the area was a battle grounds for Native Americans and settlers between the years of 1846 and 1874.

The city of Weatherford was named after the State Senator Thomas Jefferson Weatherford of Dallas. Railroads were built in the area beginning in 1880 which was when the town really started to grow. In 1895, the town started its own newspaper: The Weatherford Democrat. It is still in-production today!

There are several historical buildings in the area of Weatherford. In 1908 the Santa Fe Depot was built which houses the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce. There are more than 60 Queen Anne Victorian homes that were built in the early 1900s. Today, many of these homes are open for tours during the holiday season. Another historical building in the area is the Parker County Courthouse which is in the center of downtown Weatherford. The courthouse has recently been restored to its original state.

There are several notable people from the area including: Hippo Vaughn, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Zach Britton, and Mary Martin just to name a few.
